The Israeli military said it has killed a Hamas operative accused of playing a role in the abduction of three Israeli soldiers during the October 7, 2023 attacks, according to a report by the website i24NEWS titled “IDF kills Hamas terrorist involved in abduction of three soldiers during October 7th.”

In a statement cited by i24NEWS, the Israel Defense Forces identified the individual as a member of Hamas involved in one of the cross-border incursions that marked the beginning of the conflict. The military said the operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to locate and eliminate militants connected to the coordinated assault, which resulted in mass casualties and the capture of hostages.

The October 7 attack, in which Hamas fighters entered southern Israel from the Gaza Strip, led to the deaths of around 1,200 people and the abduction of more than 200 others, according to Israeli authorities. The kidnapping of soldiers and civilians has remained a central focus of Israel’s military campaign, with officials vowing to bring those responsible to account.

According to the report, Israeli intelligence services had tracked the suspect’s involvement in the abduction and identified him as a target linked to the broader network of militants who planned and executed the operation. The military did not provide extensive details about the location or timing of the strike but described it as part of a sustained campaign against Hamas leadership and operatives.

Israeli officials have repeatedly emphasized that operations targeting individuals connected to the October 7 attack are intended both to disrupt Hamas’s operational capabilities and to send a deterrent message. The killing comes amid continued fighting in Gaza and ongoing Israeli efforts to dismantle Hamas’s command structure.

Hamas has not immediately issued a response regarding the individual named in the report. The group has previously denied specific allegations about its members’ roles in particular incidents, while continuing to characterize its actions as part of armed resistance.

The targeting of individuals implicated in hostage-taking remains a sensitive and politically charged issue within Israel, where families of captives continue to press for increased efforts to secure their release. Israeli authorities have indicated that intelligence gathered during military operations plays a role both in locating hostages and identifying those involved in their capture.

As the conflict persists, such targeted killings underscore the broader strategy pursued by Israel since October 2023: a combination of large-scale military operations and intelligence-driven strikes aimed at weakening Hamas and pursuing accountability for the initial attack.
